En avril 2021 nous venions juste de terminer deux ans et demi de travail intense avec une équipe répartie sur trois continents. « Awé ! » se présentait alors comme un album fleuve, racontant sa propre genèse au travers de vingt quatre morceaux à l’unité stylistique clairement vacillante mais au combien charmante à nos yeux…

C’est alors que notre ingénieur du son, Phillipe Teissier Du Cros, nous dit, quasiment au moment d’envoyer les disques au pressage : “Mais qu’arrivera t’il si un DJ à Rio décide de jouer “Awé!” ? Il ne va pas passer son temps à choisir ses Tracks au milieu d’un triple album ? Il faut tout resserrer, de façon à arriver à l’évidence absolue, quitte à raconter notre histoire en plusieurs parties…” Le poids de son argument se précisant au fur et à mesure de nos margaritas, nous décidâmes d’ équilibrer, de dégraisser « Awé ! » et de vous le présenter en deux mouvements. En voici donc le deuxième, « Awé ! » Les Inédits”

Les morceaux qui composent cette seconde partie sont des réponses stylistiques à bon nombre d’opus du volume original.
Ainsi le Groove clairement hip hop de « Electric Carnival » est une réponse à la Samba « Blue Carnival », « Alma Furiosa » est la version électrifiée du bolero « Alma del Sur », « Wild Song » est la réponse acoustique et lorgnant vers les expérimentations les plus modernes du Jazz Du groove de « Wild », et combien d’autres ainsi…

Quelques morceaux ne répondent cependant à rien d’autre qu’eux mêmes au milieu de ce nouveau répertoire. Le Calypso de « Anoucheh’s Hips » , magnifié par la voix du chanteur cubain Carlos Miguel Hernandez par exemple, mais aussi « Danza de la realidad », pour ne citer qu’eux.

« Awé ! » Est sorti sous 3 formats physiques. Sa réponse en miroir se devait donc d’être un format exclusivement numérique et qui plus est sur une plateforme originale. Nous avons Choisi Bandcamp car il représente un rapport de proximité entre l’artiste et son public, sans intermédiaire et avec une rémunération juste.

Ce deuxième mouvement d’ « Awé ! » ne termine cependant rien, car comme toute histoire, nous espérons qu’elle soit sans fin et continuer à la partager avec vous.

In April 2021 we had just finished two and a half years of intense work with a team spread across three continents. “Awé!” struck us as a rolling river of an album, telling its own origin story over the course of 24 tracks that were clearly unfixed, stylistically speaking, but that were full of charm to our ears…

Just when our CDs were about to be pressed, our sound engineer, Phillipe Teissier du Cros, asked us, “What will happen if a DJ in Rio decides to play “Awé!”? How will he choose his tracks in the middle of a triple album? It needs to be tightened up so that it all becomes absolutely clear, even if that means telling the story in several parts…” The weight of his argument got heavier as the night wore on, and after a few margaritas we came to the conclusion that we would have to balance things, to streamline. As a result, “Awé!” is a two-part album, and here is the second installation, called “Awé!: Les Inédits”.

The pieces that make up this second part are stylistic responses to many of the tracks on the original album. The clear hip-hop groove of “Electric Carnival” is a reply to the samba track “Blue Carnival”. “Alma Furiosa” is the electrified version of the bolero track “Alma del Sur”. And “Wild Song” is an acoustic reply eyeing the most modern experiments of the jazz groove of “Wild”… and there are many others in the same vein.

But some of the tracks in this new repertoire are replies to nothing other than themselves. The calypso track “Anoucheh’s Hips”, elevated by the voice of Cuban singer Carlos Miguel Hernandez is one example, and another is “Danza de la realidad”.

The original “Awé!” album has three physical manifestations. Its reflection had to be purely digital, and it had to be available in an original digital space. We chose the platform Bandcamp for its closeness between artist and audience, with no middleman and guaranteed fair compensation.

This second part of “Awé!” is not an ending, however. Like any story, we hope that it lives on forever, and that we’ll continue to share it with you.
